The silage and haylage fields are being baked with all the hot weather and virtually no rainfall. The grass is scorched especially when the farmers put "tank" (watery cattle slurry) on the fields. Normally you would get a bit of rain to wash it in and speed up the new grass growth, but not this year. I remember doing this block of land last year and it was the complete opposite, tractors were bogging down in the many wet areas. I caught a reasonable amount of moles here last year, 96 in fact. This time it was only 26, but it only took me half a day to trap the 100 odd acres.
